Logistics Coordinator

If you enjoy problem solving in a high-pressured environment, then Logistics Coordinator could be the role for you. Dealing with budgets and stock management, you’ll need a head for numbers and be highly organised, as well as being comfortable speaking to people outside of your department on all levels. There are plenty of opportunities for career progression, and you’ll gain invaluable knowledge of the entire supply chain.

Transport Planner

As well as relevant health and safety qualifications, you’ll most likely need to complete professional training in Transportation Planning. If you like solving puzzles then you’ll enjoy the challenge of ensuring routes are safe and adhere to government legislation, as well as reaching destinations in good time and within budget. You may also be called upon to act as a witness in public enquiries or be consulted on designs for improvements on the transport network; good communication skills are imperative.

Warehouse Manager

Leadership skills are at the forefront of this role, as you’ll be managing and motivating a 24-hour warehouse, with a large team rotating through shift patterns. It will be your responsibility to ensure that all staff in the warehouse are fully briefed on health and safety standards, as well as checking all machinery is maintained and fully operational. You will also manage budgeting and stock inventories, and on a practical level are likely to need a Forklift Truck License.

Routing/Scheduling Clerk

You’ll need top-notch people skills for this one, as you’ll be the point of contact for everyone from vendors to drivers to consumers. You’ll need a keen eye for detail as you will be overseeing all cost breakdowns, inventories and routes to ensure that everything is as efficient as possible. You’ll be arranging shipping details, as well as being the first point of contact for queries and complaints relating to any of the logistics teams in the supply chain.

Traffic Operator

Maths isn’t the first thing you might think of when you hear Traffic Operator, but this is a role reliant on numerical literacy and top IT skills. You’ll be responsible for the physical shipping of cargo, making sure everything is insured correctly and that all costs are within budget. You will arrange financial documents for vendors and customers, as well as arranging inspections and quality control checks. People skills are a must, as you’ll be liaising with people across all departments as well as customers and suppliers. A foreign language can be hugely beneficial if a career with an international company interests you.
