Commercial Development Programme

The Commercial Development Programme (CDP) is a three year programme which develops thorough commercial capability for individuals and produces transport leaders of the future. The programme is divided into three 12 month placements in diverse and fast growing areas such as:

  • Procurement
  • Corporate Finance
  • Programme and Project Delivery including Project Management
  • Franchising
  • People Management

As part of the programme, you will also study towards a recognised professional qualification to support your development. It offers:

  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
  • Associate for Project Management (APM)

Working at DfT The department itself is also uniquely excellent at promoting learning and development (L&D), having received the highest ratings for ‘L&D’ out of all government departments according to the Civil Service People Survey 2017. One of the four visions for the Department of Transport is to make it ‘A Great Place to Work’, and so it has the goal of genuinely investing in its employees. It offers a diverse range of training programmes to staff of all stages of their career.
