What’s the right course for me?

This might sound like an obvious question but course titles don’t always give the full picture. It’s important to find out exactly which modules will be available to you. Look at optional areas of study as well as compulsory elements. Will this course prepare you for the career you aspire to?

How much?

You’ll be a customer of the university so it’s important to know exactly how much your course will cost you. Ask whether the university offers scholarships and what the criteria for these are. Once you know what the course will cost you, you can begin planning your other living expenses.

What support will I get with employability?

Improving career prospects is the main reason most people study at postgrad level, so what is the university going to do to help you along the way? Ask about the university’s Careers Service and what they can offer you. Some universities offer careers advice for life so it’s certainly worth exploring. Also, ask if there are any alumni case studies for the course you are thinking of doing, it might inspire your next steps!

Where are you?

Some postgrad courses are fully online but most require some campus attendance. Look at whether you can commute or if there is suitable accommodation for you. Some universities offer family living and some may place postgrad students together in university accommodations. Also, ask about campus visits so you can see where you’ll be based before you commit.

What other university facilities are there?

Studying will only be part of your postgrad life. You’ll also need a social life, recreation and even a part-time job. Find out what the university can offer you to make your postgraduate experience rounded, fulfilling and memorable.
